More Green

So I have been researching to find where I can buy organic products in my area. I found a great store in downtown Mystic, right across the draw bring. Its called Puritan and Genesta natural Food store. It's apparently been there for years, and I have driven by it many times, but I never knew where it was. They have a great selection of food and other natural products. Here are more ways we are trying to help the environment in my house hold.

- Unplug appliances when they aren't being used. I had no idea that even if the product is turned off it still sucks up energy just being plugged in.

-Not sure if this one counts as good for the environment, but it is good for my body. I started using Thai deodorant stone. It has no chemicals or aluminum in it.

-Only organic meat with no antibiotics or hormones in them for my family anymore.

-We will be participating in earth hour on March 29th at 8 pm, bu turning off all lights and appliances in our house for an hour. Check out the site http://www.earthhour.org/
"So far, as well as Sydney, there'll also be Chicago, Tel Aviv, Manila, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Brisbane and Toronto all turning off their lights for an hour in the name of fighting global warming."

Just stumbled upon your blog...I've only read your most recent post and it seems we both have similar interests. I just made a post about Earth Hour, I'm also looking for organic/locally grown food and figuring out ways to make my house more environmentally friendly. :) I also love the layou, you can be sure I'll be back to read more.

Hi Shannon! Great blog! I've added it to my blog roll as well. I love what you're talking about with going green. I've been doing a lot of reading on it lately too and it's so easy to make small changes... if only everyone would! p.s. viva handmade! :-)

Anthrax shots suck!

On Friday we had a three mile road march with our IBA and Weapons. Luckily it wasn't timed and we didn't have to do it in formation. I am the second shortest person in the unit, so I have really small strides. It took me an hour and 20 minutes to finish. I just took my time. Normally on the PT test I walk 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. But I was in no rush to finish with a 17 pound vest and 8 pound weapon. To top off the day we got anthrax shots. It was my first one in a series on 6 shots. Let me tell you it feels like they are trying to kill me or something! The actual shot didn't hurt, I could barely feel the need go in. about 20 seconds after I got the shot my arm felt like it was on fire! That only lasted for about 2 minutes and then I was good to go, until yesterday. I looked at the spot where I got the shot and it is a huge bump and red spot there. It is also really sore. Right now I am sitting in the emergency room. I had extremely terrible pain in my right side of my stomach that wrapped around my side into my lower back. I usually have a very high pain tolerance, but this was comparable to the contractors I felt during child birth. I couldn't bend over, sit down or lay down. My right leg also went numb. The doctor said I probably have kidney stones, because there was a lot of blood in my urine. Now I am waiting to get a cat scan. They also want to check and make sure its not my appendix. I included a picture of my iv, it took two nurses and 3 needles to finally get a vein, so I am kind of proud of it. I will update what the final diagnosis is after the cat scan. Later - So it is official I have kidney stones. They said the kidney was inflamed but they didn't see any stones, because I was probably passing them when I was having the pain, or they moved out of the kidney. Desert Christmas Tree

When I arrived back at work today, I had a big box at my desk and it was from an organization called Treats for Troops. I opened it up and it had a mini Christmas Tree with lights and ornaments. This is awesome because I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas. So Amy and I set it up in our room and we now have our own Christmas Tree Complete with mini sotckings!
