More Green

So I have been researching to find where I can buy organic products in my area. I found a great store in downtown Mystic, right across the draw bring. Its called Puritan and Genesta natural Food store. It's apparently been there for years, and I have driven by it many times, but I never knew where it was. They have a great selection of food and other natural products. Here are more ways we are trying to help the environment in my house hold. - Unplug appliances when they aren't being used. I had no idea that even if the product is turned off it still sucks up energy just being plugged in. -Not sure if this one counts as good for the environment , but it is good for my body. I started using Thai deodorant stone. It has no chemicals or aluminum in it. -Only organic meat with no antibiotics or hormones in them for my family anymore. -We will be participating in earth hour on March 29th at 8 pm, bu turning off all lights and appliances in our house for an hour. Boycotting China

In another way to show my support for the Tibetan crisis, I have decided not to buy any products made in China. And for another reason why should we Americans give them anymore of our hard earned money?! We are already in debt to them billions of dollars for the Iraq war! Its kind of weird because in a way we are supporting communism, by giving them our money and borrowing money from them! The other day I was going to buy a Tibetan prayer bracelet, when I looked at the tag it said Made in China! Needless to say it went back on the shelf. And even though I'll be in the Middle East at the time I also am boycotting the 2008 Winter Olympics, I refuse to watch them.

Going Green

I have been doing a lot of reading on the Internet about many different things lately. Along with my in depth studies of Buddhism, I have also been reading a lot lately about organic foods and products, ways to help the environment (ways to go green), and the crisis in Tibet. I have also sworn of buying anymore products that are made in China. Each day I am researching and coming up with ways that my family can make less of an impact on the environment. The following is a list of simple things I have come up with so far: -Turn down the heat! I normally like my house warm so I don't have to wear layers, but now I am turning down the heat. -I only use the car starter that I have come to love, if I am going to be driving Emma in the car and it is below 35 degrees. I also don't leave the car running if we are sitting parked. "Idling your car for more than ten seconds uses more fuel than stopping and restarting the engine. Idling also sends unnecessary emissions into the air co

Felt the need to vent & share

The news of the protests and the state of Tibet have been quite disturbing to me lately. I was not very familiar with how bad the communist Chinese government was to Tibet until I actually started doing so research lately. As most of you know China took over the country of Tibet in 1949 with little resistance. Mostly in part to the deep roots of Buddhism in the country, they believe in nonviolence. Among hundreds of ways that China had failed to "better" this country, as they said their intent for taking over, there was on instance that totally grabbed my attention and I can’t stop thinking about it so I wanted to share. The following is what one thing I read on the website for the International Campaign for Tibet some of the info I also copied from other online sources. A little background on the situation The 14Th Dalai Lama, who is the highest spiritual leader, of Tibetan Buddhist was exiled to India in 1959 due to the Chinese take over of the government. The Panchen La

Coloring in the lines

I thought this was pretty amazing for a four year old. One day my daughter came out of her room from coloring a picture and it was surprisingly in between the lines. One day she was coloring out of the lines, the next its in!

A Cat Hat

Image
Emma's school was having a spirit week last week in honor of Dr. Seuss ' birthday. One day was silly hat day. We were unable to find any silly hat's at the mall, so I decided to improvise and make Emma a kitty cat hat. I crocheted it since that was the fastest, I feel asleep before it was done and then woke up at 2:30 am and realized I hadn't finished it! So I stayed up until 5 am, because she needed it for that day. Here is a picture of the final product.
