A Promotion and a Good Bye to the Army

Image
Today I say good bye to the Army after a 13 year career. I am being medically retired early, so I will receive retirement pay and benefits just as if I stayed for twenty years. It is bitter sweet. I love being in the Army, my job, my unit and the people I worked with every day, but I'm also excited to start a new chapter in my life. I also get to have some freedoms that I didn't have before like painting my fingernails, coloring my hair pink and getting my nose pierced again with out having to take it out every day. Today I also got promoted to Sergeant First Class and received two awards, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Connecticut Medal of Merit.

Here are a few more pictures of Emma and I running in the Color Me Rad 5K last weekend. Of course Emma lost her bib before we even started the race!

Our first 5k race

Image
Yesterday my daughter and I ran our first 5k race together, Color Me Rad, in Hartford. It was rainy and cold and our hands went numb but we had looks of fun getting all the colors thrown on us. Next year will be more prepared and wear long sleeve shirts and gloves so we don't freeze again!

Work In Progress Wednesday 23 April 2014

Image
It's been a while since I did a knitting work in progress Wednesday and boy do I have a few things in progress. I'm still slowly and hear and there plugging away on the Boxy Sweater that I started in October. I still have another 9 inches of stockinette stitch before I even start the arms. And did I mention its in fingering weight yarn?? I am also knitting a second Terrafrom shawl with sparkle sock yarn that I dyed myself. I am going to add a second skein of some sparkle sock yarn that I also dyed myself, that is a little bit light then the current skein to make it longer and give it a cool ombre effect. My little sister is having a baby girl at the end of August so I am crocheting her a blanket. I am using some Cotton ease yarn that I have had for about 5 years, since they live in Virginia and the baby is being born in the summer I wanted to make a light weight blanket she can use right away. I also started a Bias Wrap in the left over Handmaiden mini maiden s

Well hello there

Wow I didn't realize how long it's been since I last updated this blog. A lot of has been going on in life. I'm getting ready to retire from the Army in a few short weeks. And then I will be doing nothing until I start cosmetology school in the middle of July. I will being going to Paul Mitchell School in North Haven for the next 11 months full time. I also started two college classes online 3 weeks ago just for fun and for something to do when I'm bored and not working. I'm taking a Buddhism class (I'm Buddhist so it's fun and I know most of the stuff) and a Hinduism class. It's weird for the first time I have my homework done early and am not waiting until the last minute before it's due.  I have finished a few knitting projects since I last posted. Most recently was a second Frisson shawl designed by an awesome designer and friend Brittany Wilson. I knit it in a yummy silk blend yarn by Handmaiden Yarns called mini maiden. You can download t

Ravellenic Games 2014

Image
This year I competed in the Ravelry Ravellenic  games that coincide with the 2014 Winter Olympics. This is the first time I actually finished projects before the games ended. And I finished 6 on top of that! For the work in progress category I finally finished my first garment that I started 3 years ago, Rusted Root sweater. I'm so happy to finally have finished it!  I also finished several slouchy hats for myself, Emma and one for my best friend too.

Super Bowl Sunday 2014

Image
I'm not a big football fan but I did watch so I could see Bruno Mars perform at half time. To me Super Bowl was all about pink hair, pink lip stick and cute boys to kiss. Lol
