Spinning away

I have been spinning and making stitch markers like crazy for the past week. One of the girls on Ravelry told us about this company that takes samples from indie fiber and yarn / knitting related companies, combines them in a box and sells about 150 boxes. This is a great way for customers to sample your products and get your name out there. So I decided to make samples of my stitch markers and handspun yarn and send them in for the March box. The company is called Phat Fiber and they sell the boxes on Etsy, the boxes literally sell out in a day and it is best to get your name on an email list to be notified when they will be put up for sale. The awesome part is, if you donate at least 45 samples you get a box from that month for free!

This is a yarn in my yarn line (SparkleShan Yarns) Spun from Shunklies Kettle Dyed Roving, it is 50% Angora and 50% Tussah Silk. It is the Softest thing I have ever felt and its for Sale at my Etsy Store!

Anthrax shots suck!

On Friday we had a three mile road march with our IBA and Weapons. Luckily it wasn't timed and we didn't have to do it in formation. I am the second shortest person in the unit, so I have really small strides. It took me an hour and 20 minutes to finish. I just took my time. Normally on the PT test I walk 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. But I was in no rush to finish with a 17 pound vest and 8 pound weapon. To top off the day we got anthrax shots. It was my first one in a series on 6 shots. Let me tell you it feels like they are trying to kill me or something! The actual shot didn't hurt, I could barely feel the need go in. about 20 seconds after I got the shot my arm felt like it was on fire! The M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun

Yeah I did it. Today I got to learn to break down, put together and Engage targets with the M2 50 Caliber Machine Gun (nicknamed the Ma Deuce). These weapons are usually the ones you'll see mounted on a HUMVEE during convoys in the desert. Again this was mt first time, seeing, touching and firing this weapon. Let me give you some background. It Weighs 84 pounds (I'm 112), It's 65 inches long (I'm 61.5 inches). So I thought the charging handle on the M249 was bad, this was worse. I had to put both feet on the tripod and pull back the charging handle with both hands and that was still a struggle. Taking it a part wasn't many steps, but the bolt was heavy and you had to use a lot of strength to put the spring back in. So when I finally got to the simulator to fire it, I had pretty tight shot groups, but my contacts kept moving around in my eyes and they got so blurry at the end that I couldn't see the targets. Spinning away!!

I got a chance to get some spinning done this past weekend. It's been so long I actually finished 9 yarns in a week!! I also have a new favorite spinning technique. Skinny corespun thread plied.
