Emma's Eye View (a 4 year old's view of the world in pictures)

I was cleaning off the memory card from my camera, when I came across some pictures that my 4 year old had taken. Every now and again she likes to take random pictures. Well to me them seem random, but as I look at them, they kind of make me think of what is important to a young child. Most of us can't remember much from that time in our lives. I know I especially can't remember how I viewed the world back then, which for me was 22 years ago.

Looking at this photos makes me see how innocent that age can be. And it also makes me realize why kids that age can be so easily immediate by life in general. I posted some of the pictures that she took.

Her favorite stuffed friend, Buster. She got him for Christmas last year. She brings him just about everywhere. And she even wraps him up in her old baby blankets :)






Her favorite pair of shoes to wear this summer. Dubbed the "princess shoes". She wore them so much that she wore holes in the toes from running on the playground at school. I had to buy her a second pair because she loved them so much.

Anthrax shots suck!

On Friday we had a three mile road march with our IBA and Weapons. Luckily it wasn't timed and we didn't have to do it in formation. I am the second shortest person in the unit, so I have really small strides. It took me an hour and 20 minutes to finish. I just took my time. Normally on the PT test I walk 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. But I was in no rush to finish with a 17 pound vest and 8 pound weapon. To top off the day we got anthrax shots. It was my first one in a series on 6 shots. Let me tell you it feels like they are trying to kill me or something! The actual shot didn't hurt, I could barely feel the need go in. about 20 seconds after I got the shot my arm felt like it was on fire! That only lasted for about 2 minutes and then I was good to go, until yesterday. I looked at the spot where I got the shot and it is a huge bump and red spot there. It is also really sore. The M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun

Yeah I did it. Today I got to learn to break down, put together and Engage targets with the M2 50 Caliber Machine Gun (nicknamed the Ma Deuce). These weapons are usually the ones you'll see mounted on a HUMVEE during convoys in the desert. Again this was mt first time, seeing, touching and firing this weapon. Let me give you some background. It Weighs 84 pounds (I'm 112), It's 65 inches long (I'm 61.5 inches). So I thought the charging handle on the M249 was bad, this was worse. I had to put both feet on the tripod and pull back the charging handle with both hands and that was still a struggle. Taking it a part wasn't many steps, but the bolt was heavy and you had to use a lot of strength to put the spring back in. So when I finally got to the simulator to fire it, I had pretty tight shot groups, but my contacts kept moving around in my eyes and they got so blurry at the end that I couldn't see the targets. Spinning away!!

I got a chance to get some spinning done this past weekend. It's been so long I actually finished 9 yarns in a week!! I also have a new favorite spinning technique. Skinny corespun thread plied.
