First 3 Ply Yarn

The Spindlers group on Ravelry has a spin along every month and every month they have a different theme. You then Post pictures of your finished skein in that months thread and a random winner is drawn each month.

February was the first month I participated in the Spin A long and the theme was Mardi Gras. So I decided to spin up a Batt from Butterfly Girl Designs that was red and purple bamboo, black merino and firestar and Angelina. I thought it fit the theme pretty well. I called the finished skein 'Ruby Tuesday'


The March theme was Romance and of course I immediately though of pinks. This is inspired by pink roses and is the first 3 ply yarn I have ever spun. I spun thin singles of Soy silk, super wash merino and merino & Angelina. Then I plied the three together and came out with this wonderfully girl yarn and I have to add that it is super soft! I just wish that I had more of the soy silk so that I could make more length!

Anthrax shots suck!

On Friday we had a three mile road march with our IBA and Weapons. Luckily it wasn't timed and we didn't have to do it in formation. I am the second shortest person in the unit, so I have really small strides. It took me an hour and 20 minutes to finish. I just took my time. Normally on the PT test I walk 2.5 miles in 35 minutes. But I was in no rush to finish with a 17 pound vest and 8 pound weapon. To top off the day we got anthrax shots. It was my first one in a series on 6 shots. Let me tell you it feels like they are trying to kill me or something! The M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun

Yeah I did it. Today I got to learn to break down, put together and Engage targets with the M2 50 Caliber Machine Gun (nicknamed the Ma Deuce). These weapons are usually the ones you'll see mounted on a HUMVEE during convoys in the desert. Again this was mt first time, seeing, touching and firing this weapon. Let me give you some background. It Weighs 84 pounds (I'm 112), It's 65 inches long (I'm 61.5 inches). So I thought the charging handle on the M249 was bad, this was worse. I had to put both feet on the tripod and pull back the charging handle with both hands and that was still a struggle. Taking it a part wasn't many steps, but the bolt was heavy and you had to use a lot of strength to put the spring back in. So when I finally got to the simulator to fire it, I had pretty tight shot groups, but my contacts kept moving around in my eyes and they got so blurry at the end that I couldn't see the targets. Spinning away!!

I got a chance to get some spinning done this past weekend. It's been so long I actually finished 9 yarns in a week!! I also have a new favorite spinning technique. Skinny corespun thread plied.
